Why you should focus on your skincare

You see those pictures of makeup online and think - ah yes, I’ll show this to my makeup artist and she can make my skin look this flawless and smooth. However, we always forget this thing called ‘Photoshop’. So many images online are retouched, smoothed and edited to make out the skin is perfect and that it’s the makeup they have used which has done that. I’m afraid it doesn’t work that way!

Foundation is used to even out the skin tone, and it can make your skin look dewy or matte but it doesn’t change the texture of your skin. If you have scars/spots/wrinkles/dry patches, it won’t suddenly smooth them down. This is why every makeup artist I know bangs on about skincare.

My first tip is “DON’T USE FACEWIPES AS YOUR MAIN SKINCARE”. To quote Caroline Hirons, makeup wipes are

for fannies, flights and festivals only!

So, why do we need a good skincare routine?

Cleansing the skin properly will remove makeup and dead skin cells which are clogging your pores. What happens if your pores are clogged? Breakouts happen! We don’t want that on your wedding day!

We also need to use the right products for our skin type .these will then help the texture. It can be confusing, if you are really struggling to find something that works for you, I highly recommend visiting a skincare expert.

Prepping our skin before makeup will also help the products to go on smoother, and last longer too. This is essential for a wedding.

If you are a wipe junkie, start off with finding a good cleanser and moisturiser to suit your skin. Then you can add products in if you need to, such as serum, facial oil, toner etc.

My current routine is a cleanser, micellar water, hydrating toner and night cream.

I think it’s a lovely way to give yourself a quick pamper at the end of the day too - we need to look after our skin.

I hope you enjoyed these tips. and please, get rid of those wipes!
